Europe is packed with cultural and amazing attractions to enjoy, and whether you visit one particular city, country, or town, or whether you move around and enjoy several during your stay, you are sure to want to pack into your time a few of the best attractions on offer. You’re going to need comfortable walking shoes and a very empty camera memory stick, but there is plenty to enjoy!
Every country is known for something, and that’s probably what makes this continent so great – there is perhaps more history in this huge landmass than anywhere else in the world, and exploring at least some of it is a must do. Of course, it’s not all about history, some of it is also about nature, geology, or basically a man-made attraction which is fun with a capital F.
If you have no idea where to start, check out these suggestions on some of the best attractions Europe to has to offer.
The Eiffel Tower, Paris
The city of love, a city of style, and a city that really is downright beautiful, but aside from that, it is probably most famously known for its tower. A chance to visit the Eiffel Tower should be grabbed with both hands, however you’re probably best advised to head there early, or book your tickets online, as queues can be quite frankly horrendous! Once you’re through that part however, the experience and views are amazing.
Colosseum, Rome
Rome is packed with sights to see, in fact one visit definitely won’t be enough, but the Colosseum is probably one of the most visited attractions on offer. Again, get there early because most people have exactly the same idea! During the summer months, slap on that sun cream and remember a hat, because you are out in the open sun and the temperatures can be unforgiving. When there, close your eyes, focus, and imagine you’re back in Roman times, with the roar of the crowd, and the sense of anticipation in the air.
Buckingham Palace, London
London is another of those cities packed with attractions but Buckingham Palace has to be seen to be believed. Check out the times for the Changing of the Guard, which happens a few times per day, and this is a royal feast for the eyes, full of pomp and ceremony. You don’t even have to pay to see it, you can simply gaze from the street, if you are prepared to get there early enough and grab a prime spot!
Grand Bazaar, Istanbul
Now, it’s worth mentioning that if you manage to get yourself lost inside this maze-like market, then you’re in good company; even the locals get lost! This bazaar is the biggest in the city and it is an assault on the senses. You won’t find colour, noise, and sights like this anywhere else, and you can also grab yourself several bargains with a spot of haggling! You will laugh, you will gaze in wonder, and you will probably get lost, as we mentioned, but it’s all part of the experience!
Timanfaya National Park, Lanzarote
It’s not all about history, it’s about nature too! Lanzarote is full of lunar-like landscapes, but none more so than those seen in Timanfaya National Park. This park of volcanoes is awe-inspiring, and you can even ride a camel to the summit, and eat food cooked by the heat of the earth! There are countless trips going from the main resorts on the island, so this is a very accessible attraction for all.
Nou Camp Stadium, Barcelona
Football fans will fall over themselves to visit this powerhouse stadium, but you don’t have to be a major fan of the team to enjoy it. The stadium is huge, it is really quite something to experience, and you can take a tour around it, enjoying the silverware and the dressing room too. A major perk is that it’s not as expensive as you might think!
PortAventura, Spain
Our other suggestions have all been about destinations of history, culture, or nature, but this one is just for fun! Located in Salou, on the Costa Daurada, this is theme park which is packed with fun to be had for all the family. There are on-site hotels if you want to base yourself in the park for a few days, and many bundle deals to be found if you look online at reputable sites.
Obviously, Europe is packed with many more attractions besides these, and what you class as ‘the best’ really is down to your interests as an individual. Overall, however, these suggestions will grab the imagination of any visitor, and have you booking your next trip to explore a little further, probably as soon as you return home!
